A straightforward daily practice overlooked by four out of five Indian adults could significantly extend lifespan and improve cardiovascular health, according to cardiologist Dr Sanjay Bhojraj. The expert emphasises that this accessible habit requires no special equipment or gym membership, making it particularly relevant for Bihar's urban and rural populations alike.

Dr Bhojraj explains that regular walking—even for just 30 minutes daily—can substantially reduce heart disease risk, lower chronic inflammation, and improve overall metabolic health. "The benefits are remarkable yet most adults cite time constraints or lack of awareness as reasons for not incorporating this into their routine," he notes. Research indicates that consistent walking reduces blood pressure, manages cholesterol levels, and helps maintain healthy body weight.

The finding holds special significance for Bihar, where non-communicable diseases including heart ailments are rising rapidly. State health data shows cardiovascular conditions now account for nearly 28% of mortality cases. Public health experts suggest that promoting walking culture through community initiatives could address this growing concern cost-effectively.

Dr Bhojraj recommends starting with short 10-minute walks and gradually increasing duration. "Even breaking it into three 10-minute sessions throughout the day delivers substantial benefits," he advises, encouraging Bihar residents to prioritise this simple yet powerful health intervention.
