Hormonal imbalances have become increasingly common among Indians, with lifestyle factors playing a crucial role in endocrine health. Dr Sood, a practising endocrinologist, has identified five daily habits that directly influence hormone production and regulation in the body.
Adequate protein intake emerges as the foundation of hormonal health. Proteins provide amino acids necessary for producing hormones like insulin, growth hormone, and thyroid hormones. Dr Sood recommends including dal, paneer, eggs, or chicken in every meal to ensure the body receives sufficient building blocks for hormone synthesis. Many Bihar residents traditionally consume protein-rich sattu, which serves as an excellent local option.
Beyond protein, the doctor emphasises consistent sleep patterns, regular physical activity, stress management through meditation or yoga, and maintaining proper hydration levels. These practices collectively support the pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands in their daily functions. Disruption in any of these habits can trigger hormonal disorders, leading to weight fluctuations, mood changes, fatigue, and reproductive issues.
With rising cases of thyroid disorders and diabetes across Bihar and India, medical experts stress that preventive care through conscious daily choices remains more effective than treatment alone. The state's health department has also begun awareness campaigns about lifestyle diseases in rural areas.
